Alive in Barcelona is set to drop their new EP, Flatline, along with the final single “Decay”, on November 4th. The hard rock band from Washington State released their self-titled debut album in 2019 after signing with SmartPunk Records. The band is comprised of Matt Hoos – Vocals, Jesse Barton – Guitar/Vocals, Chase Williams – Drums, Cameron Douthat – Guitar, and Colton Anderson – Bass.
On their debut album the band collaborated with Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, Darkest Hour, Emarosa) Jeff Juliano (We the Kings, PVRIS, Shawn Mendez) and Brad Blackwood (Lamb of God, Sara Bareilles, Maroon 5. This time around they worked with The Plot In You vocalist Landon Tewers who cowrote the EP with the band.
Flatline is a 3-song melodic rock EP with a touch of post-hardcore thrown in. Speaking about the EP, Matt Hoos says “We really want to help hurting people… too many people are depressed and don’t know where to turn. We want our listeners to know that they aren’t alone, and that they can always come to us in times of need.”
The EP’s first single was released in August. Hoos relates, “‘Parasite‘ is a song about discovering things in your life that are toxic, leeching off of your well-being, crippling not only you…but everyone around you. Life is full of regrets, some we can face and conquer, while others eat away at the very fiber of your being. ‘Parasite’ is about that ‘eating feeling.’ The trial of facing challenges when you don’t have the strength, and the question: “is this who I am supposed to be?“
Speaking about the second single, Hoos says “’Asphyxiate’, at its core, is a song about societal pressure, the pressures of life, and life’s never ceasing obligations that can only be relieved by attacking them head-on. Sometimes, the pressure can make us feel like we aren’t ourselves anymore; like we are suffocating. That socioeconomic struggle is something that everyone faces at an integral point in life, and how we choose to face it helps us answer the most important introspective question: Do I have the strength to endure this?”
Flatline, along with the EP’s third single “Decay”, is out this Friday. For more on the band, check out the links below.
